| During last year all of the courses that I ran were full and a lot of people were disappointed, it is advisable to book early for any coaching course as there are a limited number of places available. We now offer open canoe courses, check out course dates for further information. The Alpine courses remain very popular, these are aimed at paddlers who wish to gain experience, (maybe for 5 star) running harder rivers with support and guidance. Nepal is an experience that is aimed at paddlers who are at 4 star, the river gets harder as we progress and as we are raft supported there is always the opportunity to raft the harder rapids. As such this is also ideal for non paddlers who can complete the journey in one of the rafts.
Changes to the BCU scheme.
Most of you will have read about the changes by now that are in this issue of CODE, I think that you will realize that now is the time to get into the BCU system, if you have any people within your club or organization that are on the periphery of the coaching scheme then I can not stress how important it is to get them started either on the road to coach or to the next level. It will be easier, both in time and cost to transfer to the new system once BCU qualified. Dates for this years courses are now on the website, it is advisable to book early to secure a place.
Clubs can book me for any course to be delivered at your venue, all you need is 4 participants, email for details. Did you know that if you book an assessment and you may not be quite at the required standard you get a free re-assessment, a commitment to getting you through the award. Trips
Bradford and Bingly Canoe Club took to the Alps in July, with good water conditions for that time of year a lot of the classics were able to be run. One highlight of the week was the successful decent of the Rabiouse wave by Chris from Bradford, third time lucky and the big cheesy grin at the bottom was priceless! Next years dates are on the website but as usual these are not set in stone and can be flexible for your group. Scotland - October 2008 I have a small group that is interested, I therefore have a few spaces either for individuals or a small group. Staying around Ft William with Ben Nevis as our backdrop, we will be ideally placed for all the major rivers that Scotland has to offer, Etive, Spean, Roy, Gloy, Loy to name a few. Accommodation and food are included in the price and there is the possibility of sharing transport. Email for details. Remember clubs can book a week or a long weekend at any time. Sea Weekends
I now have access to sea kayaks and as such I am in a position to run sea kayak weekends/weeks off the coast of Anglesey. This area of Wales has everything, from abundant wildlife and inaccessible coves/caves to tidal races and exciting, committing overfalls. This can also be combined with a session on Stanly Embankment playboating. If you have never been on the sea other than surfing then this is an ideal opportunity, you won’t be disappointed, why not make this a club trip, all standards catered for. Email for further details. Midland Canoe Club will be taking to the sea this summer, watch out for a report on this trip
