Level 3 Kayak Assessment - A Different Approach! or BCU New 4 star Training and Assessment
Some of you may be a little rusty or lack in confidence for this assessment but want to progress to level 3 coach, I have the answer! The course is based in Ft William and lasts 6 days, the first three or four days are spent training, having another look at the level 3 training but giving you a more in-depth and broader insight. The assessment then follows where I am sure that you will be ready. You will also go through the new 4 star, thus giving you the opportunity to gain 2 awards and have a possitive step on the new awards structure.( Peopel can also book on just for the 4 star). The cost is £300 which I know might seem expensive but for some people this is probably the best way to get through the assessment, it is also 95% catered in a fantastic cottage, all you have to do is get there and pay the BCU admin fee (£17.50). You will also gain the experience pf paddling some of Scotland's best rivers. Dates 14th to 21st February 2009, 6 places available. For those who wish to do the new BCU 4 star the first two days are spent training followed by 2 days paddling of your choice and then the assessment for the last two days. Traditional dates 7th and 8th March 2009 6 places available. New for this year - Austria, paddling high volume water based around Landeck you will have the opportunity of raising your skill level on some of Europes classic white water runs, fly drive options as well as the usual ferry. Also you will have the chance to take the new BCU 4 star award during the week. Email for details. HighcliffeAdventure are now in a position to offer a fully supported trip to Nepal during November/December 2008.
We are proposing a nine-day raft supported trip down one of Nepal’s premier rivers the Sun Kosi. The river rises near Tibet and flows eastwards in Nepal through the great valley between the Mahabharat Lekh mountains and the Himalayas. It forms the watershed for most of eastern Nepal, gathering strength from tributaries draining the highest mountains in the world as it emerges onto the northern plains of India where it joins the Ganges.
For the vast majority of the river there are no roads or towns with just the occasional picturesque village, along the river are white sandy beaches for camping and the lower section is heavily forested with troops of monkeys and an abundance of wildlife.
The best thing about the Sun Kosi, with a few exceptions is that the river gets progressively harder as you descend down the river, there is time to loosen up and practice your skills on easy water before you reach the more challenging and demanding rapids downstream. After the trip you will have time to either relax in the hotel at Sukute beach or complete day trips on other rivers in the area.
A full description of the river and Nepal can be found in White Water Nepal by Pete Knowles.
